PROVO, UT, August 6th, 2024 – Eclipse Optics, formerly known as Eclipse Glasses USA, is excited to announce the commencement of their nationally-recognized eclipse glasses donation program. In collaboration with a local Eagle Scout project, Eclipse Optics is inviting the Utah public to participate in a significant processing event on August 24 at 9 AM. The event will be held at 1768 S Industrial Pkwy, Provo, UT 84606.
This initiative aims to repurpose hundreds of thousands of eclipse glasses from the April 8 total solar eclipse for future astronomical events, promoting sustainability and educational outreach. The donated glasses will be inspected, cleaned, and prepared for redistribution to schools, community groups, and underprivileged regions globally. This effort not only recycles valuable resources but also enhances public access to safe solar viewing equipment.
"As an Eagle Scout myself, I am thrilled that our company gets to partner with such a dedicated Eagle Scout project," said Roger Sarkis, CEO of Eclipse Optics. "This collaboration embodies our commitment to community engagement and environmental responsibility. Together, we can ensure that these glasses continue to serve their purpose and inspire future generations of stargazers."
The event promises a day of community spirit and environmental stewardship. Volunteers will be guided through the processing steps, ensuring each pair of glasses meets safety standards for future use. Refreshments will be provided, and participants will have the opportunity to learn more about solar eclipses and safe viewing practices.
Due to the overwhelming international response to this donation program, Eclipse Optics invites Utah families, students, and community members to volunteer to help sort through the hundreds of thousands of pairs to prepare the glasses for shipment to South America and Africa.
