LOS ANGELES, USA, 15 December 2023 - Pansophical’s first album “Pay it Forward”, a ‘Musical Children’s Story... for Adults’, is set to debut in digital music stores on December 24th.
Pansophical is a collaboration between two highly specialized artists Dave Thomas and Eric Nash Schermerhorn which combines music and spoken voice advertising. Together, they mash up story narratives with modern instruments and ancient instruments with a complimentary immersive sound design.
Known as Musical Storytelling, this genre is a unique delivery system because it encourages the listener’s imagination to engage and creates a change of perspective about a shared narrative.
Dave Thomas has worked in showbiz for over 50 years, voicing thousands of commercials in the US and around the world. He has done everything from writing to directing, voice acting, dance, comedy, theatre, anime and documentaries.
Eric Nash began playing guitar aged 12 and got his big chance to play on the big stage when he was part of David Bowie’s Tin Machine tour. His playing and songwriting led to more tours and collaborations with many superstars like Iggy Pop, THE THE, and Seal.
Introduced by their mutual agent, Dave and Eric began collaborating on new ways to tell stories with great original music using modern day ‘Aesop’s fables’ for music-loving evolving homo sapiens. They wanted to create content as powerful as advertising with truthful arts that changed people’s minds and ultimately make the world a better place.
Dave said: “These songs and words aren’t separated by blank empty pauses, they are knitted together with the song of nature. Music, story, and nature are scaffolding that shares one simple message; evolutionarily speaking, we as a species haven’t stopped evolving. It isn’t about me, it’s not about you, it’s about us, all of us. We can do better. Pansophy is a path to get there.”
Dave recruited a master of string instruments, Orbel Babyan, to join the collaboration. Babyan specialises in playing string instruments from the Middle East and North Africa such as the oud and setar.
Dave added: “In our first record session, I asked Eric and Babyan to speak through their guitars. Improvised conversations became songs, and music seemed to be born from thin air or wisps of smoke. It was magic. The striking result is organic, precise new music.
“Musical Storytelling deserves a genre of its own and it is our hope that we can contribute towards that recognition with this album. My voice has convinced people to spend trillions of dollars over my career - now I’m using it for something positive.”
The album has received excellent reviews from pre-launch listeners, with some describing it as ‘a musical journey that transcends the ordinary’ and ‘a very tranquil, grounding, relaxing, enjoyable and enriching experience’.
Pansophical’s first album, “Pay it Forward” hits digital music stores on December 24th.
