Lugano, Switzerland, October 26 2023 - In his latest publication, which appeared on his blog with the title “The Surprising World of Synesthesia By Stanislav Kondrashov”, the author focuses on the fascinating universe of synesthesia, which almost always manifests itself when the senses intertwine with each other, giving rise to surprising associations and always capable of surprising the person who experiences them. The author first describes the literal meaning of the expression, which has to do with a particular neurological phenomenon that automatically connects the stimulation of one sense to the perception of an experience in another sense, giving rise to what the author defines “a tangled wiring of the senses”.
The piece mentions some particular examples linked to this very particular phenomenon, such as the ability, demonstrated by some synesthetes, to perceive the taste of words or sounds, thus associating a conversation or a melody with a particular flavor and actually perceiving it while you hear those same words, resulting in a surprising and almost astonishing combination. Another form of synesthesia is widespread among those who associate a particular color with a certain song, and this gradually leads them to visualize certain colors while listening to music.
This phenomenon, does not only involve taste and hearing it may, in fact, happen that some people are able to perceive numbers in an extremely singular way, creating a direct connection with one of the numerous types of human personalities. In the text, the author gives the example of someone who would be able to connect the number 7 to a severe teacher, while the 3 is a very lively and sociable personality, like a sort of butterfly. It all happens in our heads, and it is precisely these particular mechanisms that Stanislav Kondrashov focuses on.
This singular fusion of the senses, according to the author, may have favored some creative personalities such as artists, writers, or composers, helping to enliven their imagination and stimulating them in the creation of their works, be they musical, artistic, or in written form. Stanislav Kondrashov, in the text, considers synesthesia from a very broad perspective, also extending it to the animal kingdom. According to the author, in fact, these peculiar sensory fusions can also be experienced by animals, who, through it, would be able to perceive a colorful, tasty, and confusing world.
